Just got back from Jamie Lynn Spears’ show at Champion Billiards in Frederick. I’ve heard her single “How Could I Want More” on the radio, and I like it. I like the song and I like her voice –it sounds real, not contrived like a couple of other female country singers I can think of.

And I liked the set she performed tonight, about 15 songs, some from her new EP and others she wrote but didn’t make the EP cut. A couple of standouts — “All I Am Is Gone,” a song she wrote about ending a bad relationship but leaving a negative situation in a positive way; “Mandolin Summer Sun,” an uptempo song she wrote with co-writers, who wanted her to write a “happy song” during one session; and “When the Lights Go Out,” which she wrote on the first night on the road, leaving her daughter at home.

A pony-tailed Jamie Lynn said people are probably thinking “why is she wearing those glasses?” The short answer: a bad bout of allergies and congestion, so bad she couldn’t wear her contacts. I think her and I were about the only two girls in the room wearing glasses!

Jamie Lynn, keep the glasses! They’re cool!
