One Word, One Change

The Muse is holding its third annual Lend a Hand Art Auction to benefit Blessings in a Backpack. The theme for this year's event is One Word One Change. When we received our blank canvas, we drew a random word to use as the basis of our art projects. The work is on display for a silent auction ending October 24th. With scores of  participating artists, I was surprised to find my painting hanging right next to Shannon Beatty's mixed media creation. Shannon and I were "roommates" at Artomatic@Frederick ... read more

Have you been to the Artist Angle gallery yet? It's a little off the beaten path, but well worth finding. It's in the same building as Joanie's Carroll Street Cafe, on the Commerce Street side. Just look for the purple door. They've done an incredible job of transforming the basement of a former granary into a unique art space. Mick Williams and Donald Frame will be exhibiting from October 17 through November. Mick Williams specializes in watercolor paintings featuring landscapes, ... read more

“Gratitude” at Crestwood

by Karen Peacock. 0 Comments

There's a new multi-media exhibit at the Women's Center Art gallery at FMH Crestwood. The theme is "gratitude" and I thought it would be interesting to hear the artists' stories on how they chose images for this show. In my mixed-media painting, Falling (In Love),  the aim was to capture the wonderful and disorienting feeling of new love. The subject is being moved by forces out of her control ... but she certainly doesn't seem bothered by it! If you’d like your gratitude art to ... read more

New Venue for Artists

Last night I had the chance to preview the Artist Angle's new space at 124 South Carroll Street. It promises to be a full-service marketing resource for artists. Because self-promotion is not the strong suit of many creative types, this is a welcome addition to downtown Frederick. Despite being located in a basement, the 1800-square-foot space has plenty of charm. There are both antique-paneled walls as well as the more traditional white ones to showcase art. Besides the gallery, there ... read more

Herons Courting

by Karen Peacock. 0 Comments

Joan Tarbell Plato is a member of The Artists' Gallery. Below, she tells us a little about her entry for TAG's 13th Annual Box Show.   "Herons Courting" began with an elongated cigar box combined with my love of herons. I have never seen two herons courting, but have read about the offering of the branch from the male to the female. After using acrylic paints to portray the two herons, one on each side of the box and their upward wings of excitement, I then pondered the inside. Using ... read more

How Ya Feeling?
