Spring Training Games Don’t Count!

by Marien Hornyak. 0 Comments

I have to start today’s blog post by acknowledging the fact that the Frederick News-Post has done a decent job printing Washington Nationals articles this season.  In a city that bleeds orange and black, it’s nice to see some increased coverage of the “other” Major League baseball team that’s a short driving distance from Frederick.  So thanks, FNP – we Nationals fans appreciate the recent articles in the sports section highlighting the Nationals’ hopes for Spring Training and goals ... read more

So What if it’s 12 Degrees? Spring Training Starts This Week!

by Marien Hornyak. 0 Comments

Hello, Washington Nationals fans! It’s finally that time of year again – time for Major League Baseball players to brush the mud off their cleats (wait, who am I kidding – they all get new shoes each spring), rub some oil on their gloves (do they get new gloves too?), and grab a new bucket of shiny white baseballs (with some residual mud from the Delaware river). Spring Training starts this week, and the Washington Nationals have a lot to look forward to and a lot to live up to as well.   After ... read more

Despite Ending the Streak, the Nationals Keep Winning

by Marien Hornyak. 0 Comments

I know, Nationals’ fans; it’s been a while since I’ve blogged.  But I was waiting for the Nats’ winning streak to end, because I figured that blogging about it during the streak would somehow jinx the team.  So now that the 10-game winning streak is over (only after one loss, since they won again after the streak ended), I can reflect on what it’s like being a Nationals fan during this exciting time. First of all, those darn Atlanta Braves didn’t make the streak as exciting as it could ... read more

A Fan in the Brink of a Heart Condition

Oh my goodness, Nationals fans – this whole being-in-first-place thing has me under such stress!  I was going to blog earlier this week about Stephen Strasburg’s struggles to earn a win, but then life got in the way and I didn’t get a chance to sit down and type.  Then on Tuesday I was going to write about the Nationals’ latest call-up, Michael Taylor, and how he had a base hit and a home run in his Major League debut against the Mets.  But again, things got busy and I didn’t get the ... read more

The 2013 Season in Review

by Marien Hornyak. 0 Comments

The 2013 MLB baseball season is over, and while many teams are moving on to the postseason, that does not include the Washington Nationals.  The World Series was the ultimate goal for the team, as manager Davey Johnson was clear to point out all the way back at the Winter Meetings when he was quoted as saying “World Series or bust!”  Unfortunately, the Nats fell well short of that this season. They couldn't match their production from the magical 2012 season in a number of ways, and so the ... read more

Look Who’s Hitting!

What a difference a few weeks make!  The Washington Nationals went 14-5 during a 19-game stretch against the Marlins, Mets, and Phillies.   It was a crucial run of wins, and combined with a few slip-ups from the Reds recently, it's gotten the Nats only 5 games back of the National League wild card race (I'll be wearing my black and gold this weekend while I root for the Pirates to sweep the Reds!). Now that the season series with the Mets and Phillies are wrapped up, the Nats' schedule gets ... read more

Still Hanging in There!

Hello, Nationals fans!  Sorry I haven't blogged in a while - we had a family vacation, my kids went back to school, and I went back to my school-year job; so life has been pretty hectic around here.  But while all of us have been leading our busy lives, Major League Baseball continues, and as we enter the last month of the regular season, playoff races are heating up. Not to be excluded from the hoopla are the Washington Nationals, who, despite not living up to preseason expectations, are still ... read more
