Bucket List: The Local Early Summer Line Up

Oh boy Frederick, it’s going to be a busy first half of the summer!  This list is so lengthy I’ve forgone my usual verbose introductions for each show and just put down the facts.  Winters over, it’s time to get out and support your local music scene.  Do it (!!!) and don't forget to check us out on FACEBOOK .

Plaeground with Tek SubPort and Trey Frey @ Café Nola Thursday, 5/26/11 – TONIGHT. TONIGHT. TONIGHT.  Catch some of Frederick’s best electronic tribal/ trance/ dubstep tonight at Café Nola.

The Death Set @ The Red Palace Thursday, 5/26/11 – Its times like this that I wish I lived closer to DC.  I’ve been dying to catch a Death Set show since I discovered the band a few years ago.  If you’re in the metro area tonight I highly recommend checking out this high energy punk meets electronica with a high pitched Australian accent bunch.

The Demon Beat with Elephant Child @ The BlueMoon Saloone , Friday 5/27/11 – Start your holiday weekend off right with blazing guitars and some blow your mind solid rock!

J. Roddy Walston and The Business @ Ottobar , Friday (5/27) and Saturday (5/28) – J. Roddy is definitely one of my favorite local Baltimoreans to catch about town.  Good ol’ fashion rock and roll with piano and all.

FREDROCK (!!!) @ the Frederick Moose Lodge (828 East Patrick St), Saturday 5/28/11 – If you’re not headed out of town this weekend you should seriously consider checking out this month’s FredRock.  The line is shaping up to be a good show case of local talent.

Fantastic Farm Memorial Day Music Festival @ 4888 E Basford Rd, Frederick, MD 21703, Saturday 5/28/11 – I’ve never been to this one, but it sounds like it’s going to be a beautiful way to enjoy the weekend.  Groovy music all day and camping, located right outside of Adamstown… starts Saturday at 4pm, 6 bands. Headliner: On the Bus, a Grateful Dead tribute.

Bela Fleck and The (original) Flecktones @ The Strand-Capitol Theatre , Tuesday 5/31/11 – I know this is on a Tuesday and it’s not exactly local, BUT seeing the innovative bluegrass/ jazz fusion band Bela Fleck and the original Flecktones should be highly considered in any situation amongst music connoisseur.

Secret Mountains with Hop Along and Dangerous Ponies @ Golden West Cafe , Wednesday 6/1/11 – Secret Mountains is one of my favorite female led Baltimore bands with exceptional instrumental arrangements in an indie rock style.  Wednesday nights are tough, but Golden West is pretty easy to get to and you can even have a delicious dinner before the show.

Jesse Malin @ Jammin Java , Thursday 6/2/11 (also playing the Ottobar , Saturday 7/16/11) – Jesse Malin played with a few punk rock bands out of New York starting in the early 80’s and made a name for himself in a glam punk band called D Generation.  Now a day’s he’s performing with a group called the St. Marks Social and writing/singing rock songs of the more pop variety with a light punk rock feel.

David Dondero with John Miller and Woodworkings @ The BlueMoon Saloone , Friday 6/3/11 – The BlueMoon draws in yet another great out of town act, David Dondero.  Dondero is an amazing American singer, songwriter, and guitarist.  Together with J. Miller from Prison Book Club and Woodworkings it should be a great show case of folk rock and instrumentals.

Ryan Bingham and The Dead Horses @ DC 9:30 Club , Friday 6/10/11 – The most popular Americana show I will go to all year, but Ryan is worth it.  He deserves to be popular.

March Fourth Marching Band @ Columbia Festival of the Arts , Columbia Town Center Lake Front, Friday 6/10/11 – This will be a truly unique experience.  It’s almost impossible to describe the March Forth Marching band, but one word in that mysterious equation is definitely FUN.  So go check them out at the Columbia Festival of the Arts and see some other cool stuff while you’re there.

Bluegrass Country’s Stars at The State @ The State Theatre , Saturday 6/11/11 – Sponsored by the radio station WAMU 88.5 and should be a divine selection of traditional bluegrass bands.

Alberta Cross @ The Red Palace , Friday 6/17/11 – Americana rock not to be confused Cross Canadian Ragweed, another Americana band of sorts.  Alberta Cross is definitely on their way to the big time, catch’em while you still can at the intimate Red Palace.

The Brunswick Music Fest @ Brunswick, MD, Saturday 6/18/11 – The Brunswick Music Fest is happening again this Father’s day weekend.  The theme is more bluegrass oriented this year.

Cotton Jones with Old Liners @ Café Nola , Saturday 6/18/11 – Cotton Jones from little old Cumberland, MD has been traveling around the US all year since we last saw them at Nola.  The last show was great and with Old Liners on the bill also, this show will be epic.

The Shackletons with the Matrimonials and Northernmost @ Golden West Café , Thursday 6/23/11 – Yeah! The Shackletons!  Get your rock fix with these guys out of Chambersburg, PA at the very awesome and hip Golden West.

Joey Cape’s Bad Loud with Cory Branan @ The Black Cat , Thursday 6/23/11 – Woohoo, Joey Cape is coming back to town, this time in rock band style with the very talented Cory Branan.  Should be a fun show.

Kaimbr & Kev Brown sponsored by Blinding Sun Records @ Bentz St Sports Bar , Friday 6/24/11 – We don’t get many hip hop shows around town and when Blinding Sun Records is involved you know it’s going to be quality.

Dinosaur Jr. @ DC 9:30 Club , Saturday 6/25/11 – Do I really need to explain why you should go to this highly influential 90’s alternative/ indie precursor bands show?

Animal Collective @ Merriweather , Saturday 7/9/11 – Animal Collective are super stars in the indie rock world now, but it’s always worthwhile seeing them at Merriweather on a warm summer night.
