With the departure of Infinity Ward heads Jason West and Vince Zampella, the state of Activision's internal studio has been thrown in a state of limbo. After the 2 head honchos of Infinity Ward were fired by Activision CEO Bobby Kotick, the two guys took a vast majority of the Infinity Ward staff with them and have now formed a new studio named Respawn Entertainment.
Fast forwarding to the present, Infinity Ward has been fully formed and they have been working on the next installment of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series.
So what's different this time around?
Modern Warfare 3 is being co-developed by Infinity Ward and the newly-formed studio, Sledgehammer Games. The new engine won't be based of the id tech 3 game engine; as Activision stated the game will now be running off of a new engine. All 3 platforms (XBOX 360, PS3 & PC) will be running equally and there will be no lead platform. For every past Call of Duty title, the lead platform was always the XBOX 360 and the other systems were slightly inferior ports. Spec Ops mode is back! Expect the game to take place in different locales this time around (New York, France)
