The Demon Beat @ The Shepherdstown Opera House Sat July 23rd – In the middle of their tour for the freshly released Bullshit Walks, The Demon Beat are swinging by Shepherdstown for a home town release party.  Catch the raucous rock trio in their element this Saturday.

The Black Lips @ Ottobar, Baltimore Thu, July 28th – My favorite national indie garage rockers extraordinaire are once again hitting the metro area to promote their latest release Arabia Mountain.  Having similar mojo’s, seeing them at the Ottobar should be about as good as it gets.

The Devil Makes Three @ 8x10, Baltimore Thu, Jul 28th – If jamming blue grass rock is more your thing, you might opt to see The Devil Makes three at the very intimate 8x10 located off the famous Light St. in downtown Baltimore.  Great venue and reasonable drink prices.

FredRock HardRock @ Krug’s Place, Frederick Sat, Jul 30th – Special edition hard rock FredRock this month at Krug’s Place.  Bands include Brother Wild, Dickys Revenge, Fair Skies, and Despite Charm!

Dana Falconberry with Eureka Birds and Matt Bauer @ Café Nola Sun, July 31st – Another entry to add to the list of Baltimore based up and comers to visit Café Nola.   Matt Bauer and Eureka Birds (featuring our own Kevin Collins) will bring an evening of hip indie pop and Falconberry will top it off with charming female vocals.

Hammer No More The Fingers with Pat Pat @ The BlueMoon Saloone Sat, Aug 6th – Quirky and fun indie “college” style rockers HNMTF from Durham, NC are making their way up the coast to one of their favorite local venues.  Catch them and Morgantown, WV’s alternative indie rock staples Pat Pat.

The Dirty Guv’nahs @ Red Palace Fri, Aug 12th – A pretty big name for a pretty small venue, catch some pop alternative country in DC with The Dirty Guv’nahs straight outa Knoxville, TN.

Stoner Hands of Doom XI @ Krug’s Place, Frederick Fri/ Sat, Aug 12th and 13th – Two day epic hardcore event features tons of local and not so local bands.  Check out the list here .

Hymn for Her with Old Indian @ Café Nola Mon, Aug 15th – Philadelphia’s cutest foot stomping good timing duo Hymn for Her will back at Café Nola and alternative blues rock locals Old Indian will be opening.

Hot August Blues Fest @ Cockeysville, MD Sat, Aug 20th – The Hot August Blues Fest is going to be hot in so many ways.  Great line up this year including J. Roddy Walston, Lawnchair , and the Tedeschi Trucks Band.

Austin Lucas @ The BlueMoon Saloone Fri, Aug 26th – The BlueMoon is becoming notorious for bringing in grade A meaty out of town artist.  Americana rock troubadour Austin Lucas from Indiana is no exception.  Americana connoisseurs will find a fresh innovative style in Austin’s lyrics and sound.

The Hold Steady @ DC9:30 Club Thu, Sep 1st – Long time national staples, The Hold Steady are about as classic straightforward indie rock as it gets.  Get tickets early!

Vinny Vegas with Time Columns and more@ Sonar, Baltimore Fri, Sep 2nd – It’s been a while since I caught up with the Vinny Vegas and Time Columns, but it’s always nice to see some locals playing larger venues in the metro.

Umphrey’s McGee @ DC9:30 Club Fri/ Sat, Sep 2nd and 3rd – A Chicago based progressive jam band that has picked up tons of popularity in recent years and even toured with the Dave Mathews Caravan this year.  Catch’em at the more intimate 9:30 Club before you’ll only be able to see them at stadiums like Merriweather.

Bright Eyes @ DC9:30 Club Sun, Sep 4th – Another national indie rock staple you won’t want to miss.  Coner Oberst is one of the few indie pop artist who has managed to keep some of his characteristic edge on recent releases.

Greg Loftus @ The BlueMoon Saloone Thu, Sep 8th – Yay! I’ve been waiting to catch Boston folk rock artist Greg Loftus in our neck of the woods for some time now.  It should be a very comfortable and fun show at the BlueMoon, in other words perfect.

Fruit Bats with Vetiver @ The Black Cat, DC Thur, Sep 15th – The Fruit Bats have a new CD out this year and should be worth checking out with label mates Vetiver for an evening of indie folk rock.

WHY? @ The State Theatre, VA Thu, Sep 22nd – Hip-hop indie rock like you’ve never heard and won’t hear anywhere else.  WHY? has his own genre all to himself.  The State Theatre is an interesting venue choice for WHY?, but none the less any opportunity to see this artist is a must do.

The Demon Beat / David Dondero / Lizz King @ The BlueMoon Saloone Fri, Sep 23rd – I couldn’t be happier that The BlueMoon is bringing back the amazing singer/ songwriter David Dondero and… AND coupling the artist with local rock stars The Demon Beat and Baltimore’s Lizz King.
