Meet Martin Graff

I’d like to include bios of a variety of local artists on Frederick Art Works. If you’re participating in Artomatic@Frederick, you don’t even have to be all that local.

Please send your info to kpeacock@newspost.com. There’s no need to write a dissertation. Just let us know who you are and what you do. What sets you apart from other artists? Do you have any upcoming shows? Do you use any unusual techniques or materials?  You get the idea. Feel free to include links and photos of your work. Just keep it clean, folks.

Martin Graff

My name is Martin Graff.  I’m a teacher at Frederick High, a local artist, and a downtown resident.  I’m on the Art-O-Matic team this year as FCPS liaison and am also participating as an artist.

For the past ten years, I’ve been working on a body of illustrations with text called The Face Zone.  Thus far, the images come in four forms:

  • Individual blog posts with accompanying flash writing
  • 12″ x 12″ prints in glass clip frames of the same size (floating-tile effect)  ($25)
  • Unisex t-shirts and women’s tank tops ($30)
  • 8 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ spiral-bound book of 100 different images ($40)

Here is the link to The Face Zone blog so that you can see examples of the work and the writing: TheFaceZone.com  In the event that you want to sample more posts, the blog has an archive as well if you scroll down. I’m getting 100-150 page views per week, which is encouraging.

I currently have two shows open downtown. One is at Philly Rabe’s: 214 N. Market St., and one is at Hidden Medicine Healing Arts Studio: 332 N. Market St. There are twelve pieces hanging at Philly Rabe’s for sale, and that show ends this Sunday, September 1.  There are seven pieces, two shirts, and a book for sale at Hidden Medicine, and that show is up indefinitely.  I will also have a large installment in Art-O-Matic: Building 115, Room 29; that will include twenty framed prints, six shirts, and the book, all for sale.
You can see photo albums of the Philly Rabe’s and Hidden Medicine shows at: Facebook/TheFaceZone.com
