Giving Thanks For TransIT Riders and Partners

If it’s possible for a system such as TransIT Services to have feelings of gratitude, then we hope our customers, community partners, and staff team will accept our sincere thanks at this time of year earmarked for being grateful.

TransIT began 20 years ago as Frederick City and County transportation systems merged, and it didn’t take long for us to make a positive difference in the way Frederick area residents got around town.  In fact, TransIT was selected by the Transportation Association of Maryland (TAM) as their Most Improved System in 1994, a result of ridership increasing on both our shuttle and paratransit system.  Today, on the verge of 2014, TransIT provides close to one-million trips annually, and TAM has recognized TransIT from among all the transit systems in the State as Best Fixed Route System, Best Paratransit System and/or  Drivers of the Year a total of 25 times.

Such progress and success would not be possible without the support of our riders, advertisers, drivers, and support staff.  As transportation systems go, we are relatively small, with a fleet of 53 vehicles which serve nine connector and five shuttle routes as well as demand-response service to our seniors and persons with disabilities who utilize our TransIT-plus system.  Our drivers bring feedback and ideas in from their routes regularly, and among the things we’d love to provide in the future are service expansions on the weekends, additional routes into underserved areas, and enhanced TransIT-plus services.  Our Customer Satisfaction Surveys indicate our customers love our services, they just want more of them! We, as you, would love to see us grow!

Our ridership is growing despite the recent economic downturn, changes in routes and schedules which are necessary for the system to run efficiently, and our first fare increase in ten years (which was enacted in 2012).  Our customers use TransIT to get to work, to socialize with friends and family, and to access shopping and dining opportunities.  Our drivers often get to know their customers well, and they don’t hesitate to bring suggestions back to the leadership team. These suggestions help us develop the system even further, making it more accessible and efficient.

So this Thanksgiving, we want to say “THANK YOU” to you. Whether you’re a regular rider, a business representative who has advertised on our vehicles, someone who rides occasionally, or considering trying us out for the first time, we value your business and suggestions.  We wish you and yours a warm, wonderful Holiday Season!
