Chris Young is the grandstand main event Thursday night at The Great Frederick Fair. He would be the “swoon act” this year. Girls y’all know what I mean.
“Lonely Eyes” is the third single from his fourth album (“A.M.”) and if it tracks like the other two singles (“Aw Naw” and “Who I Am With You” hitting no. 3 and 1 respectively) it will be another in a string of hits for the country singer/songwriter. His other hits include “The Man I Want to Be,” “Voices,” “Gettin’ You Home (The Black Dress Song),” “Neon,” “I Can Take It From There,” “You,” “Tomorrow” … that’s a long list!
“The Voice” Season 3 winner Cassadee Pope opens for Chris. I asked him if he has been on the same show with her before.
CY: On some larger shows with seven or eight on a bill, but not together. She’s amazing.
FNP: There’s a song written by a Maryland country singer/songwriter (Crystal Sands) that’s called “Chris Young’s Guitar.” Have you heard it?
CY: I think when I heard it I was “OK. That one’s kind of surreal.”
(You can hear it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVTNIuvsfiA)
FNP: You’ve played a lot of fairs over the years. Have a favorite fair food?
CY: I’m a corn dog fan. Every now and then you’ve got to have one.
